  • Hedge was in a partnership of Hedge & Ayers in 1813 and in Pomeroy & Hedge Ca. 1815, but it is not clear whether they were tool/rule makers or in his earlier trade of cabinet making. He invented (patented?) a "Spring Pen Ruler" in 1815 and patented an engine for dividing scales in 1827. In 1830, he moved to Brattleboro, Vermont, where he had a 22 April 1835 patent for a rule joint used by S. Morton Clark & Co.; he is known to have worked for E.A. Stearns & Co., Clark's successor, and probably worked for Clark too.
